Equipment Policy: Laptop Standards and Renewal Policy

Summary of Refresh Cycles

• Employees are eligible to have their laptops refreshed every 3 years.
• Engineers (department codes 3xx) are eligible to have their laptops refreshed after they have had their current machine for 2 years.
• A Windows-based PC (Lenovo X1 Carbon) is available for anyone in Dept 720, 722, and 725
• Monitors do not have a refresh cycle. They will be replaced upon failure.
  • To have your monitor replaced, you will need to send IT a ticket and CC your Director for approval.

 

Personalization

You are permitted to personalize your laptop. While we appreciate your desire to make the computer a bit more unique, when you are eligible for a laptop refresh we ask that you please return it to us in the same condition it was received (normal wear & tear is expected.)

Engineering Standard Computer

These standards are for employees whose departments are in this Google Sheet only. The default  configuration for engineers is the 15" MacBook Pro.  We are happy to swap this for a 13" model with upgraded specs upon request. Please send a ticket to [e-mail] if that is your wish!

15-inch MacBook Pro (silver)

• 2.2GHz 6-core Intel Core i7 processor
• 16GB or 32GB memory (depending on availability)
• 512GB SSD

13-inch MacBook Pro (silver)

• 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor 
• 16GB memory
• 512GB SSD

 Monitors

• One Dell 4K 27" Monitor (model P2715Q) and/or One 24" Monitor
• Two 24" Monitor at no cost
• If they request a second 4k monitor, let the user know we will need their manager's approval because the cost will be back-billed to their department. 

Privacy Screens

• AMER & EMEA -  IT can provide a Privacy Screen in these regions. The cost of the privacy screen will be billed to the department of the requester. Manager approval is required in the ticket. Add the user information to this spreadsheet for back charging.

• APAC - IT is not able to provide privacy screens due to not being able to purchase in these regions.

Remote Employees Hardware 

• A standard 13" Apple MacBook Pro will be provided by IT (unless your Department is defined for a different model, listed above)
• For all other hardware such as a monitor and peripherals, they can be shipped to the employee's residence and all items will be back billed to the employee's department.  To request hardware email [e-mail] and CC your manager for approval.
• Zendesk IT encourages users who work remotely to contact IT while you are visiting/training on a Zendesk campus to acquire some accessories to avoid shipping/back-billing costs.
